Subway support Maine’s veterans

Subway Sandwich Shops in Maine are building up to Veteran’s Day in a big way. Through October, sandwich artists will ask customers to donate $1 when ordering their sandwiches. Last year, Subway raised more than $50,000 in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont to support Easter Seals Military and Veterans programs.

“At Subway our franchisees are passionate about giving back to our communities, especially to those who sacrifice so much to keep all of us safe,” Loren Goodridge, Subway franchisee and Maine development agent, said. “Last year we were overwhelmed by the generosity of our customers in Maine for Easter Seals. We hope to expand that support for post-Sept. 11 vets this year.”

Easter Seals Military and Veterans services provides critical and timely financial assistance when no other resource is available to veterans, service members and their families. The program also works to ensure dignity, health and overall well-being for veterans.

All the money raised will remain in Maine to benefit the Easter Seals Military and Veterans Services programming, with 90 percent going directly to programs. “This assistance couldn’t come at a more critical time,” Director of Military and Veterans Services at Easter Seals Maine Jeremy Kendall said. “Recently we’ve seen our need nearly double and we never want to have to turn a veteran away. Because of the generosity of Subway and its customers, this program will be able to provide essential services for our local veterans, whether they are 25 or 85.”

A check will be presented in honor of Veteran’s Day this fall.
