Solar energy workshop Aug. 13-14

CAMBRIDGE — Participate in the installation of a small, simple, off-grid, solar photovoltaic (PV) system at a private home in Cambridge with the Maine Solar Energy Association (MeSEA). A 130-watt, 12-volt PV array will power the homeowner’s lights, radio and television. The installation includes a 12-volt battery bank, charge controller, and inside and outside wiring.

The two-day workshop, led by John Burke of MeSEA, will be held Aug. 13-14 from 10 a.m. to about 4:30 p.m. The rain date is the following weekend, Aug. 20-21. Take part in one day or both, but organizers prefer individuals register for both to obtain the full benefit of the workshop.

The cost is per day for full, hands-on participation, which will be limited to 10 to 12 people. Alternatively, a second rate is per day for limited, participation (not hands-on). Lunch will be provided by the MeSEA free of charge.

Reservations, including a non-refundable deposit, are required and may be made by calling ahead and mailing the deposit. Call Gardener at 277-3191 to make reservations.

Make checks payable to the Maine Solar Energy Association. The balance is due upon arrival at the workshop, or may be paid in full in advance.

Early registration is urged to meet the minimum number of participants required. More information about MeSEA is available at mainesolar.org.
