BLUE RIDGE HIKE AND BIKE TRAIL — Moosehead Trails will be conducting a trail stewardship work day on Friday, Aug. 12 on the Blue Ridge HIke and Bike Trail. The seven miles of trail have been under construction since 2014.
Work will take place on the Blue Ridge Hike and Bike Trail, and participants will get a first look at one the region’s newest trails. Under construction since 2014, the seven-mile Blue Ridge Hike and Bike Trail is designed for hiking, backpacking, trail running, snowshoeing and intermediate and above mountain biking. The hiking and trail work on Aug. 12 will be of moderate difficulty.
Volunteers will have the opportunity to learn basic principles of mountain bike trail construction, as well as clearing trail corridor, cleaning drains, improving trail surfaces and doing minor structure work.
The work day will run from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Volunteers should meet at the Greenville Consolidated School to carpool to the trailhead, and bring their own lunch, water, work gloves and bug repellant. Some tools will be provided but volunteers are encouraged to bring loppers, pruners and hand saws. The rain date for this event is Saturday, Aug. 13. Please contact Moosehead Trails Coordinator Erica Kaufmann at erica@fsmaine.org to sign-up or for more information.
The work day will be hosted in partnership with the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation, and Forestry’s Bureau of Parks and Lands and is part of the schedule of events for Forest Heritage Days. Winding through working forests, the Blue Ridge Hike and Bike Trail is a great place to see scenic vistas as well as first-hand examples forest management.
Moosehead Trails provides opportunities to hike, learn about trail maintenance and construction, and serve local communities. Find Moosehead Trails on Facebook for updates on the Aug. 12 work trip and future trail stewardship events.
