Dover Cove Farmers’ Market opens Saturday

DOVER-FOXCROFT — Dover Cove Farmers’ Market celebrates the beginning of its fifth season Saturday, May 21. The market will operate Saturdays 9 a.m.-1 p.m. through October on the corner of South Street (Route 7) and Pine Street next to the Piscataquis Chamber of Commerce. The market will also run on Tuesdays 2-6 p.m. from June 14-Sept 13. Dover Cove Farmers’ Market welcomes SNAP/EBT and credit/debit cards as well cash.

SNAP benefits have been accepted since 2012. This year, Maine Harvest Bucks nutrition incentives will be available to help SNAP shoppers stretch their food budgets. Customers who purchase meat, bread, dairy and other eligible foods with SNAP will receive Maine Harvest Bucks vouchers to spend on fruits and vegetables. Every SNAP dollar spent earns a dollar in Maine Harvest Bucks. Maine Harvest Bucks vouchers may be spent that day or saved for a market day later in the season.

Represented at Dover Cove Farmers’ Market are Leaves and Blooms Greenhouse (Gale and Peter Robinson and family of Dover-Foxcroft), Rollins Orchard (Ernest and Andrea Rollins and family of Garland) and Spruce Mill Farm (Dustin and Natasha Colbry). New to the market is Two Roads Farm (Meg Butler and Kyle Ravana and family). Worcester’s Wild Blueberries will attend Saturday markets during blueberry season (late July-mid August). Farmers interested in joining Dover Cove Farmers’ Market should speak with Peter Robinson of Leaves and Blooms.

Special guests will enrich the market atmosphere occasionally throughout the season with activities, demonstrations and information. Individuals or groups interested in entertaining and/or educating market-goers may contact Dover Cove Farmers’ Market at dovercovefarmersmarket@gmail.com.
