Proposed 2017 spending plan moved to budget committee

GREENVILLE — After a pair of special sessions, the Greenville Board of Selectmen agreed by consensus to a preliminary budget for 2016-17 to bring forward to a scheduled meeting with the budget committee for review and comment on Wednesday, April 20.

On April 13 the selectmen agreed to 16 adjustments for municipal services which result in a $26,837 net increase to property taxpayers. The proposed rise is equal to about $0.10 mills or 0.62 percent, which brings the projected mill rate to $16.30 per $1,000 in property valuations. Town officials are still awaiting figures for the school, which could alter the exact mill rate.

The selectmen also voted to amend the town’s recycling center contract with Moosehead Rubbish with the annual compensation figure in next year’s budget doubling from $15,000 to $30,000 as of July 1. Moosehead Rubbish President Sean Bolen and Town Manager John Simko had met to discuss Bolen’s request for a $15,000 increase in compensation in response to the recycling commodity market hitting rock bottom.
