Kindergarten class eggs hatch

DOVER-FOXCROFT — For several weeks students in Elizabeth Chabot’s kindergarten class at SeDoMoCha Elementary were anticipating that a half dozen different colored eggs in a classroom incubator would hatch, and the youngsters would then be able to see some newborn chicks.

On April 13 Chabot reported that there were four healthy baby chicks in the classroom and her students were thrilled. She said there was the possibility of two more as these hatchlings were trying to make it out of their shells. Chabot said all six eggs did have chicks inside, and her students were able to see inside with use of a specialized light.

The incubator was set up in advance of a farm unit, with the eggs inside for about three weeks. The hope was the chicks would break through prior to the April vacation so the students could observe the young birds for several days before a home was found for the chickens.
