A busy April at Thompson Free Library

DOVER-FOXCROFT — It’s time to stop hibernating and check out more than books as Thompson Free Library jumps into spring this April with a diverse array of informative and fun programs.

On Wednesday, April 6 at 10 a.m. Rebecca Maynard teaches how to use the MARVEL! database—Maine’s virtual library. This Internet resource is a great tool to look up almost anything, especially medical conditions and medications.

Starting Saturday, April 9 the Science Club will meet from 10-11:30 a.m. Alicia Millett, Maine Mathematics and Science Alliance STEM guide, will run this program every Saturday for six weeks.

Local poet, storyteller, creative writer and humorist Tom Lyford will be the guest speaker for our Brown Bag Lunch Series on Thursday, April 14 from 12:30-1:30 p.m. With a title like “Loves Poetry, Long Walks on the Beach, and Poking Dead Things with a Stick,” it promises to be an hour of wit, wisdom, and irreverence.

If you just can’t get enough of Lyford, self-appointed Rogue Poet Laureate of Dover-Foxcroft for Life, he will also host the annual Poetry Open-Mic Celebration on Tuesday, April 19 from 5:30-7 p.m. April is National Poetry Month so what better way to commemorate it than by bringing your own, or your favorite, poem(s), along with friends, to read and/or listen. Admission is free and light refreshments will be served.

Millett will return on Wednesday, April 20 at 3 p.m. to demonstrate how to use a 3-D printer and how to utilize objects made with the printer. It will be a great introduction to this fascinating technology.

Need a relaxing break? On Saturday, April 30 at 10:30 a.m. Librarian Michelle Fagan will host an adult coloring session. Materials will be provided, but feel free to bring your own. Coloring is a fun and therapeutic outlet to channel your creativity and reduce stress.

For more information on any of these programs, please call the Thompson Free Library (186 East Main Street) at 564-3350.
