Doane, White spark win in PVC all-star game

HOWLAND — Penobscot Valley’s Grant Doane and Greenville’s Tim White each scored 14 points to lead the Home team by the Visitors 80-73 in the Penobscot Valley Conference’s Class C-D boys basketball senior all-star game Thursday night at George Sereyko Memorial Gym.

In the girls game, the Away team defeated the Home team 83-57.

In the boys game, Pisctaquis Community of Guilford’s Ben Morrill chipped in with 12 points for the Home team. Other scorers were: Kyle Jackson (Bucksport) 8; Austin Mason (Bucksport), Devon Smith (Schenck); 6 each; Thomas Spencer (Penobscot Valley), Riley MacLeod (Bucksport) 5 each; Dakota Reinhardt (Katahdin) 4; and Eric Phillips (Searsport) 2. Sumner’s Max Eklund and Deer Isle-Stonington’s Krisford Melanio also played in the game, coached by Zak Mills, the seventh-grade son of Penquis coach Jason Mills.

Troy Reynolds of Searsport paced the Away team with 11 points while Katahdin’s Tyson Porter and Sumner’s Pat Pinkham each added 10. Other scorers for coach Chris Woodside of Calais were: Ryan Chasse (Fort Kent) 8; Alex O’Hara (Sumner), Noah Davis (DI-S), Nick Szwez (George Stevens Academy) 7 points each; Devon Whitney (Stearns), Bryce Shorey (Searsport) 4 each; Earon Gringe (Calais) 3; and Hayden Craig (Bucksport) 2. Tyler Pye also played in the game

In the girls game, Searsport’s Melinda Ogden scored 12 points to help the Away team prevail. Penobscot Valley’s Amy Hallett, Calais’ Logan Huckins, Dexter’s Skyler Theodore, Piscataquis’ Delanie Bennett and Katahdin’s Molly Cunningham each added 10 points.

Other scorers for coach Dawn McLaughlin of Penquis were: Mikayla Roy (PVHS) 8; Nicole Chasse (Schenck) 5; Abby Cross (Bangor Christian) 4; and Kaitlyn Shute (Searsport), Kayla Falone (Schenck) 2 each. Cory Gray also played.

Schenck’s Chantel Lane paced the Home team with 10 points and Katie Barton added nine. Other scorers were for coach Joe Cyr of PVHS were: Sami Ireland (PVHS) 8; Ally Eaton (DI-S) 7; Courtney Stevens (Katahdin), Taylor McLaughlin (Schenck) 6 each; Kaycee Cintron (Katahdin), Hannah Gutow (GSA), Jordynne Littlefield (PCHS), Margaret Brooks (GSA), and Anna Bucklin (Searsport) 2 each. Arianna McKinnon also played.
