DOVER-FOXCROFT — The SeDoMoCha School community is busy with several events during Autism Awareness Month — once again the SeDoMoCha Helping Hands team will be taking part in the annual Walk for Autism at the end of the month in Bangor. Proceeds from the walk will benefit the Autism Society of Maine, and another current fundraiser for the organization is a quilt raffle.

QUILT FOR AUTISM — This quilt on display in the lobby of the SeDoMoCha School in Dover-Foxcroft, donated by Donna Peterson with quilting done by Vicki Brackett of Quiltingmania, is being raffled off through April 24 to benefit the Autism Society of Maine. Tickets for the April 26 raffle drawing are available for purchase at the school, Piscataquis Regional YMCA and the Morton Avenue Municipal Building.

“This was made by a parent of one of our ed techs specifically to raise money for the Autism Society of Maine,” special education teacher Andrea Philbrick-Cooper said about a quilt currently on display in the main school lobby. “We are selling tickets at the school and also at the Y and at the town office, one for $1 and six for $5.”
The 50-inch by 60-inch quilt is primarily yellow, red, blue and white and is designed with the pattern of “Take 5 Flies a Kite.” The quilting is done in a puzzle piece pattern, a symbol used to represent the mystery and complexity of autism. Donna Peterson donated the quilt to benefit the Autism Society of Maine and the puzzle piece quilting was done at Quiltingmania in Dover-Foxcroft by Vicki Brackett.
The quilt can be viewed at www.sad68.org, the website also includes raffle entry forms, and may be viewed in person after school from 3 to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Raffle tickets may be purchased through Wednesday, April 24, and the drawing will take place on April 26. For more information on the quilt and raffle, please contact Shirley Kirkpatrick at 564-6535 extension 1140.
More information on the two-mile Walk for Autism, such as making donations, ordering a hat and/or registering to take part during the mid-day event on Sunday, April 28 at the campus of the University College in Bangor, can also be found on the main page of the district website at www.sad68.org. Philbrick-Cooper and Kirkpatrick can be contacted via the SeDoMoCha Special Services Office at 564-6535, option 4.
