PCSWCD to host free community dinner at D-F Congregational Church

DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Dover-Foxcroft Congregational Church and the United Methodist Church have pioneered a program that aims at offering a free community dinner at the Congregational Church. Since the official launch of the program in October 2014, efforts have been made by volunteers from these churches, the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church and several area businesses to provide meals on the Mondays of the month. This program is open to anyone interested in enjoying a hot meal with friends and neighbors.

Rev. Chad Poland of the Dover-Foxcroft Congregational Church said that “the Community Dinner Project has brought organizations together through a common purpose, has provided friends and coworkers an opportunity to grow in their relationships through shared service and has connected people from across the spectrum of our community. What began with five people sharing a meal has reached numbers as high as 70. We are achieving our goal: A warm place, an inviting community and great food.”

The Piscataquis County Soil and Water Conservation District (PCSWCD) is looking forward to saying thank you for all of the support the district has received from the community and giving back through hosting one of these dinners on Feb. 22, with tremendous assistance provided by the Foxcroft Academy National Honor Society students. In addition to serving dinner guests that evening, the PCSWCD will be supporting community members by showcasing local food from farms in the area in the meal.

The meal will feature local, seasonal foods and the PCSWCD will be promoting the farms and stores the district sources ingredients from. The PCSWCD has received generous food donations from Checkerberry Farm in Parkman, Breakneck Ridge Farm in Blanchard, Rusted Rooster Farm in Parkman, Widdershins Farm in Dover-Foxcroft, Autumn Echo Farm in Medford and Shaw’s Supermarket in Dover-Foxcroft.

The PCSWCD welcomes all to join the free, delicious meal at the Dover-Foxcroft Congregational Church from 6-7 p.m. (or until the food runs out).
