Center Theater announces ‘The Sound of Music’ auditions

DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Center Theatre and the Slightly Off-Center Players announce auditions for the upcoming production of “The Sound of Music”. This classic production, sponsored by Will’s Shop ‘n Save , is being performed by an all-youth cast. “The Sound of Music” will be directed by David Murray with performances scheduled for late April.

Auditions will be held at the Center Theatre on Saturday, Feb. 13 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and Monday, Feb. 15 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Anyone interested in auditioning who can’t make those scheduled times should contact Murray. Murray can be reached at jazayer@yahoo.com or messages can be left for him at the Center Theatre by calling 564-8943.

Patrick Myers, the Center Theatre’s executive director, is excited to see this production hit the stage. “‘The Sound of Music’ is so widely known either because of the movie or the play it will be wonderful to see it come alive on the Center Theatre stage. We’re looking for children pre-K through 12th grade to audition. They can come prepared with an a cappella singing piece, but they don’t have to and there are non-singing rolls as well.” Myers also states that anyone interested in getting involved behind the scenes can also drop in during auditions or contact Murray. Most rehearsals will be held after school at the Center Theatre with some Saturday morning rehearsals planned. Not everyone will be called for every rehearsal.

For more information about the auditions or performances, please email SOCP@centertheatre.org, call the Center Theatre at 564-8943 or stop at 20 East Main Street between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Center Theatre reopening its doors to produce affordable entertainment, arts and education.
