Foxcroft Academy chorus performs at Statehouse

AUGUSTA — Sponsored by State Sen. Paul T. Davis (R-Sangerville) and Representatives Norman E. Higgins (R-Dover-Foxcroft), Paul A. Stearns (R-Guilford) and Raymond A. Wallace (R-Dexter), the Foxcroft Academy chorus performed in the Statehouse before the opening of the Jan. 14 session of the 127th Maine State Legislature.

SINGING AT THE STATEHOUSE — The Foxcroft Academy chorus sang the National Anthem and several other songs at the Maine Statehouse to open the Jan. 14 session of the 127th Maine State Legislature in Augusta.

The group performed several songs in the Statehouse rotunda before heading into the House chamber, where the chorus sang the National Anthem and led the chamber in the Pledge of Allegiance.

“It is a great honor to perform for the opening of a session,” said Deb Maynard, a member of Foxcroft Academy’s music faculty. “The group did an outstanding job performing and were graciously welcomed by the House and were received very well by the entire audience.”

While in the capital, the chorus also caught a glimpse of Maine’s government in action and toured the Statehouse and the Maine State Museum, where students learned a lot about Maine’s government and history.

“It was cool touring the State House,” said Savannah Scudder, a senior in the chorus. “Maine is one of the only states that allows people on the floor of the Senate, so we were close to the action. The acoustics of the building were good, and it was cool that the representatives stood up and recognized us for our singing.”
