Special town meeting moved to Thursday evening

Staff Report

GREENVILLE — A special town meeting concerning the proposed financing for the airport parallel taxiway project has been moved back 24 hours to Thursday, Jan. 28 at 6 p.m. in the municipal building meeting hall. The adjustment was made as the selectmen signed the warrant during a Jan. 20 meeting.

On Thursday evening, voters will decide whether to appropriate and authorize town officials to expend a principal amount not to exceed $3,090,675 to construct a full-length parallel taxiway for a runway and make other related improvements at the Greenville Municipal Airport. For that purpose, voters are also asked to accept, appropriate and expend on the project state, federal and other grants funds and to borrow a principal not to exceed $154,534 (5 percent of the total project).

In other business, the selectmen accepted the resignation of board member Ryan Edmondson — effective Jan. 8. The selectmen agreed by consensus to wait until the June municipal elections to fill the vacant seat.

Town Manager John Simko was authorized to advertise for and to seek volunteers to serve on a five-member budget committee. A list of prospective budget committee members and a draft of a schedule of three public hearings on the 2016-17 spending plan will be brought to the Feb. 17 selectmen’s meeting. The intention is to have one hearing for the municipal budget, another for the school budget and the third for the town meeting warrant.
