The American Legion Oratorical Contest is for students who welcome learning …  for those who looks for an academic challenge and an opportunity to gain scholarship monies. Students learn valuable information about the Constitution in a contest held by the American Legion for more than 75 years. Entrants compete with a prepared 8-10 minute oration on a chosen subject on the Constitution and an assigned topic on some phase of the Constitution of three to five minutes. The winner of the state contest will advance the national competition where they compete for prizes up to $18,000. The contestant from Maine in each of the last two years has finished in the top nine of 55 contestants and received scholarships of $3,000.
