Pine Tree programs offer grief support

DOVER-FOXCROFT — In addition to providing support for clients with progressive life-limiting illness and their families, Pine Tree Hospice offers bereavement support to adults throughout the area who have experienced grief and loss, whether recently or in the past.

One of the most difficult aspects of bereavement is the loneliness that often accompanies grief. Seeing an empty chair that was once the favorite of a loved one can be particularly painful.

An empty chair — Often a difficult reminder for those who are grieving. Pine Tree Hospice offers programs designed to offer comfort and support to the bereaved.

Lunch & Learn is held on the second Tuesday of each month from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Dover-Foxcroft Congregational Church. A delicious lunch is provided along with a chance to socialize with others who are learning to live with grief and loss.

There is a presentation each month on a relevant topic, often suggested by one of the participants. On Jan. 12, the topic will be “Cooking for One.” Feb. 9’s topic is “Funeral Options,” and on March 8, “Meditation and Relaxation.”

Lunch & Learn, like all of Pine Tree Hospice’s programs, is free of charge.

A support group is also offered. The Adult Bereavement Support Group meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at the Pine Tree Hospice office, 883 West Main St. in Dover-Foxcroft, from 7-8 p.m. This group is led by trained bereavement facilitators and gives participants an opportunity to be in the presence of others going through similar experiences.

Pre-registration is recommended for both programs by calling 564-4346 or emailing wecare@pinetreehospice.org.
