PLAYING  FOR THE HOLIDAYSThe Harold J. Crosby Community Band of Dexter presents its annual holiday concert at the Dexter Town Hall at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 13. The band will also perform a dress rehearsal concert at the St. Alban’s Town Hall on Tuesday, Dec. 8 at 7 p.m.

This free, cabaret style concert will feature two marches by the Dexter native, and the band’s namesake Harold Josiah Crosby – “Over the Top” and “Welcome All”. The remainder of the concert will be holiday music to put attendees in the mood for the season with such favorites as “Frosty the Snowman”, “The Nutcracker Suite”, “White Christmas” and selections from “Frozen”.

The band will also be featuring a special friend, Ralph Turner of Augusta, who will be joining for “Hark, the Herald Tuba Sings”. The concert will end with a sing-along of traditional holiday songs.

The 25 musicians who make up the band have been practicing for this concert for several weeks, perfecting the music for concert-goers’ enjoyment. To give the band members one more tune-up, and a chance to perform in front of a live audience to still their stage fright, the band will be performing a dress rehearsal concert in St. Albans on Tuesday, Dec. 8 at 7 p.m. at the town hall.

The concerts will also feature the Dexter Brass, a small brass ensemble from among current band members. They will be playing holiday music specifically written for brass instrumentation, taken from the songbooks of the Canadian Brass, the Dallas Brass, and the After Hours Brass.

During the concert in Dexter, light refreshments and beverages, provided by the band, will be served. As with all the band’s concerts, donations are graciously accepted, but are not required. All the band asks is for attendance, in hopes that they can lighten hearts with the joy of music during this holiday season.
