DOVER-FOXCROFT — The county commissioner tabled taking action on the de-organization procedure plan for the town of Atkinson. The commissioners reviewed the proposal during their April 2 meeting, but declined taking any action on it until questions about the municipality’s road conditions and debt were settled.
“That’s it, I don’t want to accept the de-organization plan with any liability at all,” Commissioner Jim Annis said.
In the town’s de-organization plan, the commissioners were concerned about what they perceive as unresolved questions about the status of several roads. Some roads were described as private roads and others as farm roads. The commissioners indicated that there were “no-such things” as farm roads and the town’s plan needed to address roads as either private, public or discontinued.
The commissioner plan on taking a second look at the de-organization plan at their April 16 meeting.
“We’ve only one chance to get this right. So I want to make sure everything is in the proper place because we can’t go back and change it once it happens,” Commissioner Fred Trask said.
In other action, the commissioners approved changes in an agreement they signed with Penquis in February. The county is providing administrative services in handling a $40,000 Community Development Block Grant for weatherization services provided by the non-profit. The commissioners approved a change in the agreement’s insurance provision.
The commissioners also approved a liquor license renewal for Raymond’s Country Store located in the unorganized territory of North East Carry. The store is owned by Shirley and Edward Raymond.
