Christmas Tree Challenge at Kris Kringle’s Market

MONSON — The Kris Kringle’s Market committee is looking for Christmas trees made from recycled/reusable materials for the Christmas Tree Challenge completion to be held at the market on Saturday, Dec. 5 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Monson Gym.

All trees must be made from only recyclable/reusable materials, such as cardboard, plastics, paper, old car parts, aluminum cans, pipes, scrap metal, glass or egg cartons — anything you can think of to construct a 5- to 6-foot tree. The trees should be delivered to the Monson Gym on Dec. 5 between 8-9 a.m. to be placed in front of the gym, where they will remain on display until 3 p.m.

The public can cast their vote for the most creative tree by placing a $1 donation in a collection container in front of each tree(s). Ribbons will be awarded to the top three creative trees. All donations from this competition will go to the Kris Kringle’s Market fund to purchase winter clothing for local children in need.

Competition details and entry form can be picked up at the Monson Town Office or on the website at www.monsonmaine.org.

Kris Kringle’s Market will open with a variety of crafts — aprons, wreaths, jewelry, knitted items, wooden bowls, and more — on sale. There will also be a variety of Christmas items (artificial trees, ornaments, etc.) donated by Monson’s American Legion on sale by donation from 9 a.m. to noon.

Entries for the gingerbread house competition must be at the gym by 10 a.m. This year’s theme is a “Down Home Christmas.”Ribbons will be awarded to the top three creative and well-crafted entries. Competition rules can also be picked up at the town office or online.

The Kris Kringle Committee will begin serving lunch at 11 a.m. The committee will also be selling raffle tickets.

Cookie decorating for kids will take place at noon. Santa Claus will arrive at 1 p.m. to listen to the wishes of each youngster.

This event is the only fundraising event done by the Kris Kringle Committee which uses the proceeds to purchase Christmas gifts for local needy children. For space and further information, please call Annalee Libby at 997-3268 or 827-4857.
