MONSON — During the RSU 68 school board’s Nov. 3 meeting at the Monson Community Center, Superintendent Robert Lucy gave updates on both current work for the school grounds and a plan for the future.

He said a storage shed “is just about completed now, we have our sand in there so it’s out of the elements which is a huge improvement.” Lucy said further work to get campus ready for winter includes marking drainage spots and guardrails for snow plowing.

The superintendent said the SeDoMoCha School Organization (SSO) has been always been generous and members are working to fund a playground space for the pre-kindergarten classes. “We are going to try to fit a number of things in there,” Lucy said. He said the plans call for a sandbox area, benches and cabinet to store items, all for “something more age-appropriate for our youngest learners.”

Lucy reported on several other items, including saying that the district applied for and received a $4,600 Performance Evaluation and Professional Growth Systems Implementation Grant. “It is for professional development for our staff,” he said.

“We will have our auditor meet with us at 6 o’clock prior to our next meeting,” Lucy said about the Dec. 1 session. He said the auditor will provide a fiscal overview and answer questions.

“We need to start thinking of staffing decisions and what we are going to do, because before you know it is going to be budget season,” Board Chair Rick Johnston said about future finance decisions.

In other business, the board gave its approval to the appointment of Tom Sands as the coach of the SeDoMoCha Middle School boys basketball B team just prior to the start of the winter sports season. “Tom was involved in our football team this fall and as you know he played basketball at Foxcroft Academy,” Lucy said.  “He has coached youth sports in the area and we are happy to have him.”
