D-F Kiwanis plans to once again brighten the holidays for children

DOVER-FOXCROFT — The first snowflakes of the year haven’t fallen as of yet but the Kiwanis Club of Dover-Foxcroft is already starting to plan for this year’s Christmas Project. Letters have been mailed to individuals, churches, businesses and clubs who generously “adopted” children last year.

The Kiwanis gets a lot of credit for helping the local kids at Christmas and they could not succeed without the many members of the community who donate their time, talent and monetary contributions to ensure that every child’s name received is provided for.

The Kiwanis is coordinating the application process this year for children who live within the RSU 68 area. This is a different process than in past years when Penquis helped in sorting and the distribution of children’s names according to their geographical areas and school district. Penquis is no longer able to assist in the program so the Kiwanis will be managing the entire project from application to distribution.

Custodial parents of a child(ren) ranging in age from infant to 17 residing in an RSU 68 community may register online through Facebook at Df Kiwanis and clicking on the Santa Project. All applications are confidential. Paper applications are available at the school offices, town office, Piscataquis Chamber of Commerce and local churches. Applications are being accepted through Nov. 25.

The combined efforts of many are needed to make each Christmas Project successful, and as in past years the need is great. Individuals, clubs, businesses or churches willing to lend a helping hand in 2015 may contact Barbara Austin, this year’s chairwoman, at 564-2281 or Mrsmoore2@aol.com.

Children can be adopted through November with gifts being dispersed to families in mid-December. Working together as a caring community, every child can look forward to a Merry Christmas.
