The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) was founded on Oct. 11, 1890 as a service organization to promote historic preservation, education and patriotism. DAR is comprised of descendants of those who won American Independence. Tisbury Manor was organized in 1952 to carry on the important mission of the national society on the local level. To celebrate the 125th anniversary, Tisbury Manor members gathered on Oct. 11 to celebrate, and their project in honor of the anniversary was signing greeting cards for local nursing home residents.

There are currently nearly 180,000 members of the DAR, serving in approximately 3,000 chapters across the nation and in several foreign countries. More than 940,000 women have joined the organization since its founding 125 years ago.
