Free retail alcohol beverage server/seller training

The Piscataquis Public Health Coalition, the region’s Healthy Maine Partnership, will be hosting an on premises alcohol server training Tuesday, Aug. 18 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Factory One , 80 Water Street in Dexter. There is no cost to participate. This training will work with area retailers and their employees who sell liquor for consumption on premise.

There will be an off premise responsible beverage sales training offered on Wednesday, Aug. 19 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Dover Foxcroft town office at 48 Morton Avenue.

These free programs will cover how to identify minors and visibly intoxicated persons, intervention to prevent a visibly intoxicated person from driving, how alcohol is ingested and metabolized by the body, what alcoholism is and how alcohol affects the body, false identification detection and good carding policy, the importance of good written serving policies and the Liquor Liability Act.

Frank Lyons of BC Consultants is conducting the training. Lyons is a certified instructor with the Maine Criminal Justice Academy, instructing Maine Liquor laws, forgery and multi-jurisdictional enforcement. It is his earnest belief that through proper training and good policies, many of the violations that liquor licenses currently find themselves involved with can be avoided. It was with that ambition in mind that he developed the “Seller/Server Training” program to provide affordable state of Maine approved training to licensees’ throughout the state.
