UMaine Extension at Dover Cove Farmers’ Market July 18

DOVER-FOXCROFT — Trisha Smith, home horticulture aide at University of Maine Cooperative Extension in Piscataquis County, will represent Extension at the Dover Cove Farmers’ Market Saturday, July 18.

She will have information on continuing programs and upcoming events, fact sheets on common garden weeds and pests, and newsletter sign-up. Smith will also offer “market bouquet” design demonstration and instruction using locally-grown flowers available at the market.

Smith will be designing floral arrangements at Fryeburg Fair this October using flowers grown exclusively in Piscataquis County. “I love supporting local farmers, and showing people what beautiful varieties grow in Maine,” she says. At the Dover Cove Farmers’ Market, those who wish to make a fresh market bouquet can purchase a “bouquet kit” from Leaves and Blooms Greenhouse, and Smith will give instruction and guidance to make the arrangement.

Bringing the wealth of resources, knowledge, and experience of the University of Maine and other Cooperative Extension offices across the country into the community is the goal of UMaine Extension in Piscataquis County. The offices are tucked in a white clapboard house at the back of the county courthouse’s parking lot on East Main Street in Dover-Foxcroft, and are open to the public Monday, Thursday and Friday 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Through 4-H, Master Gardener Volunteers, FoodCorps (an Americorps VISTA program), numerous newsletters, Adult Education classes, and community outreach, Extension provides “information you can use, research you can trust.”
