Black Fly Festival set for Saturday

MILO — The events committee is happy to announce that the Milo Black Fly Festival, being held on Saturday, June 13, went on the grow again in 2015. At different times and locations three bands will be playing during the festival. There will be a magic show and a parade with clowns. Lots of activities for children including a bounce house and many vendors for adults to visit. Souvenir Black Fly Festival logo bags will be for sale too at the information tent. Join us for our once a year celebration of Milo.

The parade, themed “Beach Luau” begins at 10 a.m. and units will line up beginning at 9 a.m. at the business park. The  parade will run from to Penquis Valley High School. Businesses, organizations, school groups/classes, churches, libraries, historical societies — everybody — is welcome to join the fun and make a float for the parade. As an incentive for businesses participation a plaque will be presented to the entry judged to be best in parade.

The Vendor/Craft Fair will be set up at Veterans’ Memorial Park and along Water Street. Vendor set up will begin by7 a.m. Vendors will be open between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. (later if vendor chooses to stay).

Dunkin Donuts will be bringing coffee and donuts, served at no charge, beginning at 7 a.m.

Pony rides by Candyland Farm will be available from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. You will see the signs on Main Street directing to the pony rides in the Gillis’ back yard.

The Kiwanis Chuck Wagon will be selling Doughboys and cold drinks at the park.

From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. the Park Street United Methodist Church will have a Black Fly Festival tag sale,  and also be offering for sale RADA knives, food and beverages. Ham Italian sandwiches, whoopie pies and cold drinks will be on the menu. The sale will be inside if it rains.

Darling’s Ice Cream Truck for a Cause is making a festival visit between 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. Proceeds from the ice cream truck are donated to the festival.

From noon to 2 p.m. activities for children will include face painting for and while they last three new and special kids crafts: totem pole sand art, bug jar  and flower pot with a plant. Several fun activities/games for children will also be offered at the park at no charge.

Don’t miss Dan Baker’s Magic Show starting at 2:30 p.m. by the gazebo. There will be live music in the gazebo from 6-8 p.m. provided by the local musicians of Junction Expresd.

Jan and Ernie along with New Relm are holding a musical event at the Milo Town Hall between 4 and 9 p.m. Light refreshments on sale and there will be a 50/50 raffle.

Lighted Wish Lanterns, which can be purchased during the day, will be launched at dusk on the Sebec River (following a lighted boat parade — if there is interest and participation).

Conclude your festivities with a visit to Alley Oop’s Sports Bar on Park Street where “Whiz Pickle” will be playing from 8:30 p.m. to closing.
