Sangerville enacts ethics policy

Contributed Article

SANGERVILLE — The Sangerville Board of Selectmen has enacted a new code of ethics policy for the Town.

Approved unanimously at the May 26 board meeting, the new ethics policy will apply to the selectmen, town employees and all town and selectboard appointees to boards and committees.

The code of ethics establishes standards of conduct for all Sangerville officials and employees. The code provides confidentiality clauses, prohibitions on solicitation and acceptance of gifts or favors, avoidance of conflicts of interest, prohibition of private use of town property and establishes ethical standards in contracting.

Penalties for violations of the provisions of the ethics policy are also enumerated in the Code.

Each year, all elected and appointed town officials and employees must sign a sworn disclosure form of any affiliations with persons, businesses or non-profit agencies that they are associated with that do business with the town.

The new policy became effective as of May 26 when it was enacted and it was reviewed and approved by the town’s attorney.
