Dexter airport gets grant
WASHINGTON — U.S. Senators Susan Collins, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Angus King announced Monday that the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has granted $300,000 in federal funding for Dexter Regional Airport.
“Maine’s airports serve as critical links between our communities and help to propel economic development throughout our state. This crucial funding will provide Dexter Regional airport with the support they need to continue to operate as efficiently, effectively, and safely as possible,” said Collins and King in a joint statement.
Specifically, the Federal Aviation Administration entitlement funding will be used to rehabilitate the runway pavement at the airport.
Dexter Regional Airport, which opened in 1948, covers 311 acres and has a 3,000 by 80 foot asphalt runway.
As of last summer, there were 22 single-engine aircraft and three ultralights based at the airport.
