Center Theatre fundraiser welcomes Yellow Brick Road

    DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Elton John Tribute band Yellow Brick Road headlines the Center Theatre’s digital projector fundraiser, performing Saturday, March 23 at 7 p.m.
    Yellow Brick Road is a full concert tribute, complete with an incredible light show and sound system.  The five-piece band is no stranger to the Center Theatre, having performed there to a packed house in 2010. 

    “We are so fortunate to have such a great band helping us out with our fundraiser,” says Center Theatre Executive Director Angela Bonacasa. “The digital projector upgrade is a huge expense for us, and having a group with a history with the theatre willing to help us out is a great gift.”
    The transition from 35mm to digital is expected to cost the theatre approximately $50,000. The movie industry has been gradually transitioning from 35mm film to digital over the past several years, and several studios have indicated that 2013 will be the last year that they will make 35mm prints. Prints are already proving difficult to find in some areas, and many small theatres are going out of business because they are unable to afford the cost of the transition.
    “Movies are such a big part of our theatre, and letting that go away is simply not an option.” says Bonacasa.  “We are working on several different ways of bringing in additional funds, and this concert is a big part of that.  In addition to the music performance, we will have raffle and silent auction items, so the theatre will be full of ways to help us fund this transition.”
    There will be auction and raffle items ranging from a hand turned wooden popcorn bowl and oil changes at Rowell’s Garage to an Alan Bray framed print. Silent auction items can be bid upon the night of the concert, and raffle tickets can be purchased at the theatre at any time. You do not need to be present to win a raffle item.
    Seating is not assigned.
