Several friends and family members gathered for the presentation and luncheon at Hebron Heights where Mrs. Tabor, 91, has lived for the past 20 years. “I was one of the first people to move in here,” she said, “and I love it. I’ve made a lot of friends.”
Dottie Tabor was born in the Downeast community of Pembroke, but left to work in Massachusetts for several years. One of her favorite jobs was at a now-closed electronic manufacturing plant at North Station in Boston. “The factory was on the 12th floor and the Boston Celtic’s office was on the fifth,” she said with a smile. “I used to see the players quite often. Bill Russell was my favorite.”
She moved to Newport to live with her son, Gary, and his family in 1985 and to Monson in 1989. She has three children, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, according to her son. “She’s still an avid reader as well as a Celtic’s fan,” he said.
