HAVING A BLAST IN SCIENCE CLASS
SeDoMoCha Middle School eighth-graders got to see how chemists carve their pumpkins as Assistant Principal Matthew Lokken showed the grade 8 science classes a chemical reaction on Oct. 31.

Inside the pumpkin was a small container of water and calcium carbide, which when mixed produced gases that then built up inside the soon-to-be Jack o’lantern. When Lokken placed a lit stick near a small hole in the pumpkin the heat ignited the gases and soon a loud boom startled the students as the top, eye and nose holes were blown off and out.
