Ponies run at Class B East cross country championship

    BELFAST — The Foxcroft Academy boys cross country team was in action at the Class B East Championship on Oct. 25 at Troy Howard Middle School. The Ponies finished with a score of 259 points, placing 11th out of 16 teams.
    Junior Gabe Piquette was the first Foxcroft runner to cross the finish line. Piquette covered the five kilometers in 19 minutes, 1.16 seconds to finish 25th out of a field of 111 entrants. By placing in the top 30, Piquette qualified for the state championship  — set for Nov. 1 on the same course in Belfast — as an individual.

    Junior Cooper Nelson was the day’s second fastest Pony, as he came in 44th at 19:34.48. Senior Noah Simpson placed 55th at 20:02.33 and in 67th place was senior Nathnael Feleke with a time of 20:30.55.  Rounding out the top five was sophomore Liam Casey, in 68th place with a time of 20:43.69.
    Foxcroft juniors Kohei Kotani and Hunter Giacomuzzi also ran in the regional final. Kotani’s time of 21:10.88 was good for 76th place and Giacomuzzi came in 91st at 22:25.41.
    Caribou High School earned the boys’ championship with a score of 71 points, just three fewer than runner-up Mount Desert Island High School’s 74. The individual winner was Waterville High School senior Chris Cote at 17:12.94.
    Four girls from Foxcroft ran in their Class B East regional. Leading this group of Ponies was junior Jen Clawson. Clawson finished 54th out of 106 entrants with a time of 24:45.52.
    Next for Foxcroft was freshman Virginia Macomber, who placed 78th at 26:55.01. Senior Anna Sedlackova came in 92nd at 28:48.34 and in 98th place was sophomore Mariaisabel Cedeno at 31:20.64.
    The girls’ B East title went to MDI, with a score of 57 points or 10 fewer than the 67 for Caribou. Ellsworth High School sophomore Haley Lawrence earned first-place honors with a time of 19:51.28
    Dexter Regional High School freshman William Stauch took part in the Class C East race as an individual. Stauch ran to a 20th-place finish, out of a field of 78, with a time of 19:03.30. By placing in the top 30 Stauch earned a berth in the Class C state championship.
