Comprehensive plan committee starts its work Oct. 29

    DOVER-FOXCROFT — The first meeting of the Dover-Foxcroft Comprehensive Plan Committee is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 29 at 6:30 p.m. at the municipal building. The 15-member committee, recently appointed by the board of selectmen, is charged with updating the town’s 2005 Comprehensive Plan.

    The plan update will evaluate current conditions, identify concerns and future needs and make recommendations for the next 10 years. Public input will be sought in developing the recommendations for the plan. Topic areas include population characteristics, housing, economy, natural resources, cultural resources, public facilities and services, transportation and fiscal capacity. Some examples of issues to be addressed include telecommunications with a focus on high-speed Internet, affordable renewable energy, business development and job creation, manufacturing, agriculture, the needs of an aging population and the development of transportation and utility corridors.
    The agenda for this first meeting will consist of an overview of comprehensive planning, review of the work plan and a preliminary assessment to identify accomplishments, current issues and future needs to be addressed in the plan update. All meetings of the committee are open to the public.
