Reardon presented with Guilford’s Boston Post Cane

GUILFORD — One week after her 98th birthday, Barbara (Ladd) Reardon was presented the Boston Post Cane from Guilford Town Manager Johanna Turner.

Barbara was born on May 2, 1925 in Dover-Foxcroft to Guy and Mary Ladd, the eldest of three daughters. Barbara fondly remembers growing up on the farm on the Wharff Road in Guilford Center, walking with her family to the Guilford Center Baptist Church each week and becoming an avid reader at an early age. She married Sangerville native Dana Reardon on Sept. 6, 1941, settling in Guilford to raise their four children; Lorraine, Carol, Mary and Parker.

BOSTON POST CANE RECIPIENT — Barbara (Ladd) Reardon was presented with Guilford’s Boston Post Cane by Guilford Town Manager Johanna Turner a week after her 98th birthday on May 2.

Barbara was employed by Hardwood Products for 49 years and was active in local organizations over the years, including the Conner-Trafton American Legion Auxiliary, the Guilford Historical Society, and notably a member of the Guilford Memorial Library for 25 years. This active woman could easily score 122 for her bowling team, be found swimming at camp on Manhanock Pond, or at the local YMCA.

She lives in her own sunny apartment at Riverbend Homes, makes her own meals, and does her own dishes. Her family helps with the laundry and vacuuming. Barbara is the loving matriarch to her large family of four children, nine grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great grandchildren!
