Grange events for the first half of October

    Thursday, Oct. 2, Piscataquis Pomona Grange meets at the Garland Grange for a potluck supper at 6 p.m. followed by a meeting and program at 7 p.m. All area Granges are invited to attend. For more information contact Bill Bemis at 924-3537.

    FRESHLY BAKED — The Guilford Historical Society had an open house during the Harvest Festival. Among the items on sale were an assortment of fresh baked goods and fudge.

    Saturday, Oct. 4, East Sangerville Grange will host a fabulous fall feast at 5 pm to raise funds to help restore the historic stained glass windows at the UU Church in Sangerville. All the food is being purchased from local farms including delicious dinner rolls from Stutzman’s and produce from many other local farmers. In addition to a great meal, there will be live music played by Jason Curran and Pete Ipoliti, and a visual presentation about the Dover Cove Farmer’s Market. Reservations are required. To make a reservation, call Carol 745-9682 or the UU church at 876-4926. All proceeds go to the window restoration fund.
    Friday, Oct. 10, Garland Grange offers a boiled dinner public supper from 5–7 p.m. Menu includes traditional boiled dinner of corned beef and ham, locally grown vegetables, homemade bread and desserts. Proceeds to benefit Garland Grange new heating system. For more information, call 924-6954.
    Dinner will be followed by a family friendly contra dance. Dances are taught so you don’t even need to know how to dance. Caller is John McIntire and music will be by Some Reel People. For more information, call 924-3925 or 277-3961.
    Saturday, Oct. 11, Wayside Grange presents its last supper of the season with glazed meatloaf from 5–6 p.m. also serving scalloped potatoes, winter squash, salads, rolls and desserts along with live music, too Take-out is available.     Friday, Oct. 17, Valley Grange conducts the first Dictionary Day. PCES third-graders will arrive at the Grange Hall at 12:15 p.m. for an historical and informational presentation featuring Capt. Jack Battick, a Civil War navy captain. In addition to some information about agriculture and the Grange every student will receive his or her own personal dictionary.     Saturday, Oct. 18, Wayside Theatre presents its season finale at 7 p.m. with a concert by the Misty Mountaineers. Doors open at 6 p.m. Fine desserts and pretty good coffee sold pre-show and at intermission. For more information call Joe Kennedy at 277-3733 or Chester Bekier at 924-5711.
