Spruce Run-Womancare Alliance recognizes those who are ‘Answering the Call’
DOVER-FOXCROFT — Peaks Kenny State Park was the site of a special recognition event for the steering committee, staff and volunteer members of the Spruce Run-Womancare Alliance. On the afternoon of Aug. 28, a gathering of many of those individuals turned out to honor the special efforts and achievements of past and current volunteers and steering committee members.

RECOGNITION EVENT — Those involved with the Spruce Run-Womancare Alliance were recognized during an event last month at Peaks Kenny State Park in Dover-Foxcroft. From left are Volunteer Coordinator Ginger Hutchins, Betsey King and Christine McKenney of the Mayo Regional Hospital Emergency Department — the hospital was the recipient of the “Answering the Call” Award — and Volunteer Coordinator Catherine Kurr.
At the cookout, attendees were treated to a great variety of salads, hamburgers, hot dogs and sweets as they took time to reunite and celebrate both the merger of two great organizations as well as the past contributions of special volunteers.
Catherine Kurr and Ginger Hutchins, volunteer coordinators, provided remarks about the value of volunteer efforts for the past year. Special gifts were given to mark the longtime efforts of past steering committee co-chairs Carol Shoreborn of Dexter and Neil Greenberg of Charleston. Jim Wentworth of Monson was recognized for his longtime membership on the Womancare and most recently the Spruce Run-Womancare Alliance Steering Committee, with the re-gift of a special bottle of consensus wine, which he had ironically bestowed to Cindy Freeman Cyr many years ago. Also honored for their contributions of service as steering committee members were Leslie Forstadt, Judi Josiah Martin, Marty Kelly, Peggy Day and Suzanne Burke.
The greatest award of appreciation, the “Answering the Call” Award, was given to the Mayo Regional Hospital for its many, many years of providing all hotline pager services to Womancare. Mayo Regional Hospital CEO Marie Vienneau, Lynn Gagnon VP Patient Care, Emergency Department staff Christine McKenney and Betsey King were all present to accept the award.
In giving the award Hutchins read the inscription which stated, “Spruce Run-Womancare Alliance recognizes Mayo Regional Hospital for over 30 years of answering the calls of those affected by domestic violence.”
Beginning Oct. 1, the Spruce Run-Womancare Alliance Hotline will be accessed by calling 1-800-863-9909.
