Ordinance adjustment allows for Dexter marijuana business manufacturing
DEXTER — Per a request made by an establishment in town, the Dexter Town Council amended an ordinance on marijuana businesses during a March 9 meeting.
Medical marijuana manufacturing facilities and adult use marijuana products manufacturing facilities are both now permitted, provided all necessary state and local authorizations and permits have been obtained. Previously both types of business had been limited to marijuana extraction only.
In January the council renewed the medical marijuana manufacturing license for Delta Solutions.
Town Manager Trampas King said tDelta Solutions would like to do more than simply marijuana extraction, such as packaging, formatting, and edibles at its 399 Corinna Road facility. The business requested its ordinance to be amended to no longer say “marijuana extraction only.”
Under the ordinance medical marijuana retail stores are allowed, but all other marijuana businesses are prohibited in Dexter.
In addition to Delta Solutions, Puffers Place at 50 Johnson Road is also permitted in town as the council renewed the business’ medical marijuana license on March 9.
King brought forward another ordinance amendment concerning marijuana businesses, which would change the word license to shall issue to clear up some inconveniences for the medical marijuana establishments. The formal wording will be brought to a public hearing and be voted on the town council at a future meeting.
In other business, King said Story Teller Guitars owner David Iverson would like to have Grove Street closed off by his business in order to host several summer cruise-ins. The events would be held once a month from June to August with proceeds benefiting non-profit organizations.
The town manager mentioned a cruise-in last year at the municipal parking lot drew 35 vehicles and more than 100 attendees. A proposal for Grove Street would be brought forward at a later date.
King said planning is well underway for the annual Maine Red Hot Dog Festival on Saturday, Aug. 12. He said volunteers are needed for a number of capacities.
