Sale of tax-acquired property and E-W referendum on Dexter agenda

Staff Report

DEXTER — The Dexter Town Council has five proposed property sales, the purchase of a new highway department truck and a referendum on the proposed east-west highway on the Aug. 14 meeting agenda.
The session gets underway at 7 p.m. in the council chambers.

The properties up for sale are at 94 Spring St., 40 McFarland St., 10 Denny Drive, 681 Garland Rd. and 6 Main St.
The wording of the referendum question, if approved by the council, would be “Are you in favor of the town of Dexter prohibiting construction of private transportation and distribution corridors which include highways, pipelines, and high tension transmission lines?”
The council unanimously passed another 180-day extension of a moratorium on the limited-access highway at month’s meeting that will expire at the end of the year.
Several other communities near Dexter, including Garland and Sangerville, have passed similar resolutions opposing the 220-mile highway which is designed to link Maine’s eastern and western borders.
Also on the agenda is a proposed ordinance airport lease renewal for Robert Sundberg.
Nomination papers are also available at the town office for two positions on the Town Council, three seats on the Dexter Utility District, two SAD 46 Board of Directors’ positions and three seats on the Hospital Administrative District 4 Board of Directors.
The council terms expiring this year are currently held by Melissa “Missy” Stone and Denise Dinsmore.
