Foxcroft Academy acquires contiguous property, tears down uninhabitable home
DOVER-FOXCROFT — Foxcroft Academy finalized the purchase of the homes at 956 and 966 West Main Street on July 23. After being approached by the owners of each property, the Foxcroft Academy Board of Trustees determined that acquiring the land, which sits between Butterfield’s Ice Cream and the tennis courts, was in the best interest of Foxcroft Academy.

BUILDING DEMOLITION — A home at 956 West Main Street in Dover-Foxcroft, which had drawn complaints related both to its appearance and odor, was torn down during the day on July 30. Foxcroft Academy purchased the property located across the street from its campus.
The home at 956 West Main Street, which had been deemed uninhabitable by Dover-Foxcroft’s Public Health Office in December, was torn down on July 30.
The building at 966 will remain intact for now, providing much-needed storage space in the short-term and possibly being used for additional faculty housing in the future.
Head of School Arnold Shorey was quick to point out that Foxcroft Academy has no plans to expand its boarding program, which currently comprises 90-100 students each year. “This was an opportunity we could not pass up,” said Shorey, who will be entering his fifth year as head of school. “The additional space will provide us a great deal of flexibility as we continue to evolve as a school.”
