Seventeen FA students capture AP Scholar Awards

    DOVER-FOXCROFT — Foxcroft Academy’s upperclassmen put forth a remarkable performance on the 2014 Advanced Placement exams, with 17 students earning AP Scholar distinction. These students now belong to a group comprising just 18 percent of the more than 1.9 million high school students worldwide who took AP Exams this spring.

   The Advanced Placement program offers three categories of awards each year in order to recognize high school students who have demonstrated college-level achievement through AP courses and exams. Four FA students earned the highest award — AP Scholar with Distinction — by posting an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP exams taken and scoring 3 or higher on at least five exams (students receive a score of 1-5 on each exam).
    Luming Guan ‘14 racked up a 5 on all five exams she took (Calculus BC, Statistics, Physics B, Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism, and Physics C: Mechanics) while Katie Buerger ‘14 excelled on six exams (compiling three 5s and three 4s). Yuqing Zhang ‘14 (four 5s and a 4) and Tianqi Zhuang ‘14 (three 5s and two 4s) also captured the AP’s highest honor.

Hung

    Four students earned the title of AP Scholar with Honor by receiving an average score of at least 3.25 on all exams taken and scoring 3 or higher on four or more exams. Despite having a full year of high school left, Alex Hung ‘15 aced all four exams he took: Calculus AB, Statistics, Chemistry and Physics B. Zhaojing Ji ‘14 (four 4s), Mingyi Yan ‘15 (a 5 and three 4s), and Zhaozheng Yu ‘14 (two 5s, a 4, and a 3) were also named Scholars with Honor.
    Nine more students were named AP Scholars by posting scores of 3 or higher on at least three exams: Bo Chen ‘15, Yiming Chen ‘14, Fia Dang ‘14, Blake Dyer ‘14, Selina Guo ‘14, Sam Keane ‘14, Daniel Lee ‘14, Travis Vincent ‘14 and Bingxuan Ying ‘15.
