This month’s assembly recognized students and a staff person in the SeDoMoCha School community for their ability to communicate in different ways. Some were recognized for their ability to communicate through spoken word, while others were recognized for their ability to tell stories, and elaborate in their writing. Effective communication helps to develop empathy, avoid unnecessary disagreements, and complete tasks efficiently.
Students were called down to the multipurpose room to receive their certificates during a presentation. A representative of each grade level and for the arts in both the elementary and middle schools spoke briefly about each student before awarding them with a certificate and a lanyard.
Recognized students were described as clear and careful communicators; able to express their thoughts, needs and ideas clearly; welcoming to new students; knowing when to listen to others and really able to hear what others are attempting to convey with their words and their actions; able to mediate between peers; able to write using clear and careful details; being calm, quiet and kind to others; able to complete tasks efficiently; able to articulate; always willing to speak and advocate for the group; being active listeners; and listening to others, even in the silence.
