PCSWCD’s 2022 Tree & Plant Sale and Soil Health Day
DOVER-FOXCROFT – The Piscataquis County Soil & Water Conservation District’s 2022 Tree and Plant Sale has begun! This year, PCSWCD’s Tree and Plant Sale order deadline is Friday May 6, with a pickup date on Saturday, May 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is one of PCSWCD’s biggest fundraisers with proceeds from the sale directly supporting our educational programs and outreach.
We are pleased to announce PCSWCD continues to source all our flowers, herbs, shrubs, and fruit trees from local, organic producers. All our plant producers are from Piscataquis County, and some are very close to home! When you support us, you’ll be supporting them too! Buying locally helps our economy and planting native perennials and pollinator plants benefits our gardens, native pollinators and much more. Bringing beneficial insects and pollinators to our gardens help to increase our harvests of fruits, berries, flowers, and vegetables.
When you pick up your plant order on May 21 at the Law Farm Nature Trails, you will have the chance to join us in our Soil Health Day activities! Speak one-on-one with Natural Resources Conservation Services soil scientists and UMaine Extension to ask questions about soil health for your garden, kid’s activities will be onsite, food and local musicians performing at noon! Come join the fun and make a morning of the visit, by walking the trails or admiring the new Outdoor Education Classroom. All preorders will be ready for pick up at Law Farm Nature Trails located on Lee Cemetery Road located in Dover-Foxcroft. We offer bare root native herbs, medicinal plants, perennials, apple trees, and shrubs for biodiversity, wildlife, habitat, and erosion control! All will do well in our Zone 4 growing area for your home garden. We are happy to announce our partnerships with Haley’s Inc continues this year for all your landscaping and erosion control needs! You can enhance your landscape to attract wildlife and pollinators or diminish the effect of runoff by planting areas between your home and water bodies. Planting buffers along water sources slows water runoff and allows for the water to absorb into the ground instead of the nearby waters. Gardens will enhance the value of your property. Our landscape helpers include Plantskydd Organic Animal Repellent, Recycled Rain Barrels, Kitchen Pails and Garden Composters as well as Biodegradable Mesh Tree Protector Sleeves. Plantskydd is effective against deer, rabbits, voles, moose, chipmunks, and squirrels. It offers over-winter plant protection for up to six months!
