Free science mini-camp to be offered at Ridge View

    DEXTER — The STEM Guides project of the Maine Mathematics and Science Alliance is still accepting applications for the free Summer Science Club program at Ridge View Community School . There are two separate sessions and breakfast and lunch are provided each day. Former Dexter Regional High School science teacher and Lead STEM Guide Alyson Saunders, and RVCS Science Club Advisor and STEM Guide Becca Myers will be team teaching the camp.

SUMMER SCIENCE — A pair of free Summer Science Club “mini-camps” for middle school-aged students will be offered at the Ridge View Community School in Dexter. The sessions will be July 15-17 and July 22-24.

    Session one runs July 15-17 from 8 a.m. to noon for youth entering grades 5-6.The topic is design engineering and participants will be solving a problem and building the solution. The second session runs July 22-24 from 8 a.m. to noon for youth entering grades 6-8. The topic is biomedical engineering and they will be investigating a pandemic and designing solutions to combat the “virus.”
    Both sessions are very hands on, require no previous experience, teach engineering principles and are designed by the Boston Museum of Science. There will be a showcase of student work at the end of each camp.

The sessions are open to all area youth and home school students are encouraged to apply. The STEM Guides project is supported by the National Science Foundation Grant No. 1322827.
