Former Greenville superintendent will step down in Hermon

Jim Chasse will resign as the superintendent of Hermon School Department next month. 

Chasse informed staff Feb. 11 that he would step down at the end of March, citing a long commute and health concerns for the decision. He and his family live in the Belfast area, where his wife is a teacher.

“My wife and I thought it was best,” he said Monday morning of his decision. “My time here has been great. The teachers and leadership team are amazingly talented.” 

Chasse said he was proud of the work he had done shepherding Hermon schools through a global pandemic. He said he was leaving as there appeared to be “light at the end of the tunnel.”

He became Hermon superintendent in July 2020 after stints as the superintendent of Greenville-based Union 60 and as principal of Orono High School for seven years. 

The Hermon School Committee has begun advertising for an interim superintendent who will take over after Chasse leaves before transitioning to a permanent superintendent.
