Maine TREE Foundation Teacher Tour visits Piscataquis County

The Piscataquis County Soil and Water Conservation District was approached by the executive director of the Maine TREE Foundation, Jonathan LaBonte, to take part in their annual Teacher Tour. On July 28 32 educators from around the state of Maine stopped off at the Law Farm Nature Trails public land for part of Maine TREE’s Katahdin Region Teacher Tour.

PCSWCD Executive Director Sarah Robinson and Educational Coordinator Kacey Weber provided a tour of the public land, which highlighted all of the wonderful work being done there. Specifically, staff were able to discuss the ways local schools and organizations have participated in the development of property and all the fun projects completed with students, teachers, and volunteers.

After  the Law Farm Nature Trails visit, PCSWCD staff and Board of Supervisors traveled with the Maine TREE Foundation Teacher Tour to William London & Son Inc. in Milo, where the group learned about the recent transitions, development and the ins and outs of their logging, trucking, and forestry-based business. Molly and Alex London both shared their experiences working there and running portions of the business.

To end the day, teachers, Maine TREE employees, PCSWCD staff, board and guests Molly and Alex London all gathered for a delicious meal and spirits at Bissell Brothers Three Rivers. PCSWCD took the gathering as an opportunity to present our Volunteer of the Year Award to Jensen Bissell of Milo. Bissell has contributed countless hours of volunteer work for the PCSWCD and has recently joined the board as an associate supervisor. He has a wonderful, positive attitude and is always willing to pitch in and help with whatever we need. Congratulations and thank you to Jensen Bissell, PCSWCD’s 2021 Volunteer of the Year.
