Track and field results

    The Foxcroft Academy boys track and field team was in action at home on May 2, and the Ponies used the home advantage by finishing in first place out of a field of seven teams with a score of 125 points.
    Corey Bjornson had a pair of first-place performances for Foxcroft. Bjornson was the meet winner in the discus at 121 feet, 10 inches and the shot put at 42-04. He also came in second in the 100 with a time of 12.39 seconds, and was fourth in the 200 at 25.68 seconds.

    HEALTHY FUN RUN — The Piscataquis Regional YMCA held its Healthy Kids Day celebration on Saturday, May 3. Along with healthy activities, snacks and games 15 kids participated in a 1K fun run to start the day. In first place was James Jankunas, followed by Alyssa Boyd (left), Noah Cavanagh (middle) and Halle Page (right).

    The Ponies had three other first-place finishes. Zhe Chen was the winner in the 300 hurdles in 49.44 seconds, and the 4×100 relay — comprised of Justin Diamond, Dylan Richards, Xinghan Gong and Sebastian Zepeda — came in first in 49.26 seconds.
    Cooper Nelson won the 1,600 with a time of 5:05.48. He was the first of five Pony runners to place in the event as Gabe Piquette came in third at 5:35.46; Noah Simpson was fourth at 5:39.47; Paul Birtwistle fifth at 5:43.23; and in sixth place was Liam Casey at 5:43.38.
    Nelson also finished as the runner-up in the 800, in a time of 2:21.87. He ran the first leg of the third-place 4×400 relay, joining Ryan Wang, Judson Smith and Sebastian Zepeda for a time of 4:08.19.
    Diamond placed second in the 200, in 25.41 seconds. He also was fourth in the 100 at 12.50 seconds.
    The other Foxcroft third-place performance was by the 4×800 relay squad. Piquette, Simpson, Berkehan Taner and Tsai Yun-Ting covered the approximate two miles in 10:00.37.
    Peter Boyer had the lone third-place finish for the Ponies, putting the shot 41-00.75. Boyer was also sixth in both the 100, 12.68 seconds, and long jump, 17-04.
    Other Pony point-scorers were James Smith, fourth in the 400 at 1:00.16 and fifth in the 800, 2:28.23; Dylan Richards, sixth in the 200 at 26.37 seconds; and Cody Strout, sixth in the shot at 33-06.
    The boys from Greenville High School finished third at the meet in Dover-Foxcroft with 68 points. Matt DiAngelo won both the 100 and 200, at 12.39 and 25.12 seconds respectively. DiAngelo also came in third in the long jump at 18-02.
    Chris Miller won the 110 hurdles in a time of 21.15 seconds. In the 300 hurdles Charlie Warman placed second at 53.04 seconds.
    Evan Sullivan recorded two third-place performances, in the javelin and discus at 128-00 and 96-10 respectively. Howie Stone was fourth in the high jump, 5-02, and long jump, 18-01. The Laker 4×100 relay, made up of Miller, Warman, Alex Chapman and Sullivan, came in fourth with a time of 52.36 seconds.
    With 41 points, the Penquis Valley High School boys were seventh at Foxcroft Academy. Cevonte Johnson came in first in the long jump with a top distance of 19-06. He also opened the second-place 4×100 relay (followed by Joshua Gray, Michael Vachon and Clayton Tarnoczy) which had a time of 49.93 seconds. Johnson added a fifth-place finish in the 200, at 25.80 seconds.
    Thomas Diaz won the 400 for the Patriots, running a lap around the track in 57.83 seconds. Diaz did likewise as he opened the 4×400 relay team that came in second, as he, Joshua Martin, Michael Vachon and Tarnoczy finished in 4:05.32.
    Martin and Vachon both placed in individual events as Martin was fifth in the javelin at 116-11 and Vachon came in sixth in the 400 at 1:02.29.
    In the girls’ meet, Foxcroft came in third out of seven schools with 68 points. Fern Morrison was a double-winner for the Ponies. She was first in the 800 at 2:37.10 and first in the 1,600 at 5:44.79.
    Annie Rich finished as the javelin runner-up, throwing a distance of 72-11. Liza Grigoryeva had third-place runs in both the 800 and 1,600, at 2:46.26 and 6:10.43 respectively.
    Mackenzie Coiley came in third in the shot put, 27-02. Abigail Mcleod tied for third in the high jump at 4-04. In fourth place was Kate Sukhanova in the 100, 14.94 seconds, and Abigail Simpson in the discus, 70-02.
    The rest of the Pony point-scorers were Simpson, fifth in the shot at 24-11; Sukhanova, fifth in the 200 at 31.11 seconds; Jen Clawson, fifth in the 800 at 2:57.55; Mia Smith, sixth in the 100 at 15.50 seconds; Erika Chadbourne, sixth in the 200 at 31.97 seconds; and Anna Sedlackhova, sixth in the 1,600 at 7:20.69.
    Placing sixth at the meet were the Penquis girls with 52 points. Jessica Preble was the first-place finisher in the 400 with a time of 57.83 seconds. Preble also came in second in the long jump at an even 14-feet.
    Courtney Bowers tied for first place in the high jump at 4-04. She was the triple jump runner-up at 27-08.
    Jordan Durant came in second in the 200 with a time of 30.66 seconds. In the long jump she was third at 13-09.
    Zoe Berry had three of the Penquis points. Berry placed fifth in the 100 hurdles at 21.36 seconds, and she was sixth in the shot at 24-09.50.
    Erin Welsh and Peyton Ward accounted for Greenville’s 12 points. Welsh was third in the javelin at 71-06 and third in the discus was Ward at 72-02.
    On May 2 the Dexter boys finished fourth of four teams at Hampden Academy with 28.5 points. Seth Blais was part of a trio of third-place performances. He was third in both the 200 and 400, 25.01 and 56.63 respective seconds, and he anchored the Tiger 4×400 relay. Brandon Allen, William Strauch, Zach Caron and Blais combined for a time of 4:00.16.
    Individually, Caron was the meet runner-up in the high jump at 5-04. He also was fifth in the triple jump, 37-01.25, and sixth in the long jump, 17-04.25. Strauch placed fifth in the 1,600 at 5:27.80.
    Dexter had third through fifth place in the racewalk as Sean Lockart, Nicholas Cook and McKynzie Allen-King had times of 12:52.61, 12:54 and 14:16.69 over the 1,600 meters. Conrad Tarr tied for fourth place in the high jump, 5-02.
    The Dexter girls came in fourth place out of five with 11 points. Grace Belanger placed third in the racewalk with a time of 12:36.13, and next to cross the finish line was Serena Secklas in 13:18.24.
    In fourth place was the Tiger 4×400 relay, made up of Katie Batron, Kirsten Swim, Ashley Reynolds and Shana Fogg, in 4:55.89, as well as Kaitlyn Paquin in the discus at 69-feet. Sarah Vigue placed fifth in the javelin at 81-10.
    Also on May 2 Piscataquis Community High School took part in a meet at Brewer. The PCHS girls came in fifth of five teams with 19 points (the Pirate boys had no score).
    Mariah Pettit came in third in the 100 at 13.77 seconds. In fourth place was Kaitlyn Easler in the 100, 13.97 seconds. The two ran the first two legs of the PCHS 4×100 relay, as they, Michaela Pratt and Tiia Kand were fourth in 59.57 seconds.
    Kand ended up fourth in the 100 hurdles at 21.70 seconds. Placing sixth in the event was Catherine Rocha in 28.55 seconds.
