Track and field results

    The Foxcroft Academy boys outdoor track and field team began the 2014 season by taking part in an 8-team meet at Bucksport on April 25. The Ponies scored 100 points to finish second, trailing only the 117 picked up by Central High School of Corinth.
    Corey Bjornson led Foxcroft with three first-place performances. His winning time for the 200 was 25.19 seconds and Bjornson had a top distance of 43 feet, 4 inches in the shot put and 114-02 in the discus. In the 100 Bjornson came in second at 12.55 seconds, trailing only teammate Ryan Wang who won in 12.08 seconds.

    Peter Boyer had top three throws in each of the weight events. Boyer was second in the shot at 41-00 and third in both the discus and javelin at 79-04 and 118-01 respectively. He also came in fifth in the 100 at 12.85 seconds.
    Zhe Chen placed second in the triple jump with a top distance of 35-10.75. He also came in third in the 110 hurdles at 20.90 seconds and was sixth in the long jump at 15-08.50.
    Foxcroft’s sole fourth-place finish came from Paul Birtwistle in the 800. He ran a time of 2:28.44, and was immediately followed by teammate Noah Simpson in 2:29.24. Birtwistle added a sixth-place run in the 1,600 at 5:27.69.
    Other Pony point-scorers were Gabe Piquette, fifth in the 3,200 at 11:58.65; Sebastian Zepeda, sixth in the 200 at 26.52 seconds; and the 4×400 relay (James Smith, Taylor Smith, Zepeda and Liam Casey), sixth at 4:26.42.
    The Foxcroft girls came in fifth out of eight schools with 41 points. Abigail Simpson was first in the discus at 76-06.
    Fern Morrison had the day’s second-fastest times in two events. She was the runner-up in the 400 and 800 at 1:04.85 and 2:31.87 respectively. Morrison also was fifth in the 100 with a time of 14.08 seconds.
    The Pony 4×100 relay, comprised of Holly Fortier, Simpson, Chastity Vainio and Kate Sukhanova, placed third at 1:00.46. Abigail Mcleod came in fourth in the high jump at 4-04, and fifth in the javelin was Annie Rich at 72-00.
    Three of the area’s high schools were in action April 25 at Bangor. The Dexter Regional High School boys ended up fourth of eight teams with 46 points, while Greenville High School came in sixth with a score of 25 points and Piscataquis Community High School was eighth with four points.
    Dexter’s Seth Blais was the day’s winner in the 400 with a time of 58.66 seconds. Blais was also fourth in the 200 at 25.20 seconds. He anchored the third-place 4×400 relay, joining Brandon Allen, Jordan Gudroe and Zach Caron for a time of 4:08.42.
    Caron had the other Tiger first-place performance. Caron cleared the bar at 5-06 to win the high jump. He also came in fourth in the triple jump at 34-04.
    Other Dexter top six finishers were Kyle Lockart, third in the shot at 38-08.75; Conrad Tarr, fourth in the high jump at 5-02; Valentin Nekrasov, sixth in the 200 at 26.02 seconds; and Gudroe, sixth in the triple jump at 32-03.50.
    For Greenville, Evan Sullivan came in third in both the discus and javelin at 96-11 and 118-00 respectively.
    Matt DiAngelo placed third in the 200 with a time of 24.63 seconds. He also was fourth in the long jump at 18-00.75 and sixth in the 100 with a time of 12.09 seconds.
    Chris Miller was sixth in the 110 hurdles at 21.64 seconds, and Howie Stone added a point by placing sixth in the long jump at 17-09.
    For PCHS, Matt McKusick scored all his team’s points in the shot put and discus. McKusick was fifth in both events at 32-02.75 and 83-01 respectively.
    In the girls’ meet, Dexter placed fifth of 10 teams with 31 points, while PCHS came in sixth with 21 points and Greenville was 10th with one point.
    Three Dexter athletes had third-place performances. Shayna Fogg in the 400 at 1:09.69; Kaitlyn Paquin in the discus at 67-09; and Sarah Vigue in the javelin at 83-05. Vigue also came in fourth in the shot with a throw of 25-07 and fourth in the discus at 67-01. Paquin came in sixth in the shot put at 23-08.75.
    Other Tiger placers were Ashley Reynolds, sixth in the 800 at 3:01.80; Autumn Nickerson in the triple jump, 26-06.50; and the school’s 4×800 relay at 5:08.28.
    Mariah Pettit of PCHS led the Pirates by finishing second in the 100, at 13.56 seconds. She also came in third in the 200 at 29.12 seconds and ran the last leg of the fifth-place 4×100 squad. Cahrey Harris, Michaela Pratt and Kaitlyn Easler joined Pettit for a time of 1:00.50.
    In the high jump, Olivia Dow jumped 4-00 to place fourth. Easler came in fifth in the 100 at 14.15 seconds.
    Peyton Ward scored for Greenville, as she was sixth in the high jump at 4-00.
    On April 26 the team from Penquis Valley High School traveled to Brewer to open the season with nine other squads. The Patriot girls finished ninth out of a field of 10 with nine points.
    Courtney Bowers accounted for eight Penquis points, as she was the meet runner-up in the high jump at 4-06. Jordan Durant had a point by running the 200 in 29.77 seconds, good for sixth.
    The Patriot boys were 10th at the opening meeting. Cevonte Johnson had his team’s point by placing sixth in the long jump, at a distance of 18-02.
