Do the right thing to keep each other safe

To the Editor;

I run the Center Theatre in Dover-Foxcroft. As a movie theater and performing arts venue we’ve been affected as much as any local business because of COVID 19. We were shut down completely, then re-opened with strict health and safety guidelines that made doing business much more difficult. I’ve had to lay off employees and there have been months where I was thrilled when attendance hit double-digits. We’ve had to improvise, reinvent ourselves, and come to terms when the worst-case scenario became just another day that ends in “y.”

I say all this to make it clear that I desperately want things to return to normal as soon as possible. But that’s not going to happen by fighting health and safety guidelines. That’s like trying to stop the firefighters when they come to put out the fire. The only way to get back to normal is to stop the virus. This means business owners need to make sure their employees and patrons wear masks. It means we all need to do the right thing to keep each other safe. We need to take this virus seriously and we all need to take the vaccine when we’re able.
