Businesses and Masons provide hams for SAD 4 families

GUILFORD — Thanks to Herring Brothers Meats, Mount Kineo Lodge #109 of Guilford and Gordon Construction, 160 hams were delivered to SAD 4 families for Easter.

SAD 4 Food Services Director Roxanne Chase came up with the idea the Wednesday before the holiday and started making phone calls to see if she could make it happen. Her last call was to Herring Brothers Meat Market and she asked Trey Gilbert if he could get her 160 hams. He asked when she needed them by, and she said the next day. Gilbert told her to let him see what he could do.

Within an hour Gilbert had secured the hams and said he could have them by Friday morning.  When Chase she didn’t have enough funds to cover the cost, he graciously offered to make up the difference.

The same day SAD 4 officials received an email from Graham Goulette representing the Guilford Masonic Lodge, offering to help in any way they could. They agreed to contribute $1,500 toward the cost of the hams. A contribution was also made by Gordon Construction through the backpack program.

Chase said they are so blessed to live in a community that truly cares and goes above and beyond what is asked. SAD 4 officials would like to thank the sponsors and also a big thank you to all the food services workers, who come out tirelessly each day in order to make this possible. Even the snow storm and the power outages could not prevent this from happening. The “crew” gathered on Saturday morning to make sure the hams and meals were delivered in time for the holiday weekend.
