D-F Kiwanis appeals to community for help feeding families in need 

It is absolutely amazing and so gratifying how the entire community comes together every year to provide for the children of our area at Christmas. Now an unexpected crisis is at our doorstep.

The Kiwanis Backpack Program that provides food to children was suspended when the schools closed. However, we are partnering with the schools and other community members who are trying to get food to those families during this unprecedented time. But this is something way beyond what our budget was set up for. A big thank you goes out to those who have already put their money where their mouth is, but this is a huge task. It involves not only buying the necessary items, but delivering them as well. It can’t be accomplished without the help of citizens throughout the community.  

Normally at this time of year our dedicated Kiwanis members would be out at the grocery store, in the banks and other places selling raffle tickets to raise money for the many charities we support. But it is just too risky right now. Instead, we are relying on members to sell the tickets privately to their smaller circle of family and friends. So if you know someone who is a member, please call them and buy as many raffle tickets as you can. 

Or if you would rather just donate, please contact us via Facebook (dfkiwanis), or mail your tax-deductible gift to the address below. You can be sure that every penny will go directly to helping children right here. Any amount will be greatly appreciated and put to immediate use. 

I am confident that, if we all come together during this uncertain and difficult time when so many are in need, with God’s help, we will come through this crisis stronger than ever.
