Piscataquis Writers Alliance meets weekly

The Piscataquis Writers Alliance (PWA), formerly the Monson Writers Alliance, has some exciting changes to announce. The Alliance started in Monson with the support of the Monson Arts Center and Libra Foundation in December 2018. Meeting space was graciously made available in the Monson Public Library for the summer. Since then, the PWA has changed its meeting location and time to better accommodate its members. The Piscataquis Writers Alliance currently meets weekly at the Guilford Bed and Breakfast at 24 Elm St. in Guilford from 1-3 p.m. on Tuesdays.

A core group of committed members meet to analyze and provide helpful edits and reviews on pieces written by group members. We discuss characteristics such as grammar, punctuation, word choice, overall flow and elements of style. This is a working group of writers who share their experience and talents with each other for mutual support, stimulate creative writing skills, and streamline the craft of writing.

The diverse genres that our members are producing include the following:

Erik Stumpfel, a retired attorney from Bangor, has produced a delightful book of poems and supporting photographs inspired by central Maine’s natural beauty. He is actively looking for a publisher.

Wendy Denney, proprietor of the Guilford Bed and Breakfast, is working on a Southern Gothic novel and yes, the unexpected keeps happening.

Will Macomber, a local native Mainer and engineer is honing his memoirs that involve growing up in the Dover-Foxcroft area, his extensive career including historic accounts of the lumber camps, mills and factories in central Maine.

Our newest member, Lou Sidell, owns and operates Perseverance Blueberry Farm and is polishing an interesting sequence of letters weaved together pertaining to his relocation to Maine.

Kevin P. Tremblay, local real estate broker and writer, is refining his fictional novel about dirty deals in real estate.

Are you a novice, experienced or published writer or poet in need of a boost? Can you see the considerable benefit of having accessible beta readers at your fingertips? PWA can help by locating errors and offering productive suggestions and recommendations to enhance and tighten your final piece. PWA members are serious about our writing, but we also like to laugh. Ultimately, we respect, appreciate, and thoroughly enjoy learning from each other with the purpose of improving our own personal writing skills.

If this sounds like a group you are interested in becoming a part of, contact Tremblay at me_real_estate@yahoo.com or call 207-270-1744. We may be a small group, but we are huge in what we can offer. And don’t worry, what’s read in PWA, stays in PWA! Finally, did we mention the complimentary coffee at the meetings?
