SeDoMoCha shines the spotlight on outstanding students and staff

DOVER-FOXCROFT — Each month the SeDoMoCha School recognizes “Students in the Spotlight,” celebrating pupils from kindergarten to grade 8 who teachers and staff have determined best demonstrate a specific positive attribute or characteristic chosen for the timeframe from the Habits of Mind (a set of life skills for educators and parents). The 11 November Students in the Spotlight, the first of the 2019-20 academic year, were honored for “Finding Humor” during an all-school assembly in the gym on the morning of Monday, Nov. 25.

The honorees are Bryson Feltis, kindergarten; Lyric Reed, grade 1; Madison Weymouth, grade 2; Ryan McGary, grade 3; Aislinn Miller, grade 4; Sullivan Carey, elementary unified arts; Thomas Atwater, grade 5; Daniel Turgeon, grade 6; Emily Greenlaw, grade 7; Jack Kingsbury, grade 8; and Tyler Sandberg, middle school unified arts.

New in 2019-20 is a staff piece for the Spotlight program. Four staff members were nominated by their peers and an Employee in the Spotlight winner was chosen. Elementary art teacher Martha Ladd, custodian Larry Leighton, pre-K educational technician Lisa Pangburn and grade 7 social studies teacher Derek Carroll all came forward to be recognized.

School administrators chose the winner, and the inaugural Employee in the Spotlight honor went to Leighton.

Principal Adam Gudroe said, “Larry was chosen because he always seems to find the humor in every situation. His job puts him in situations that many of us would consider less than humorous and yet he still maintains a great sense of humor even when cleaning up not so humorous things. Everyone appreciates his willingness to laugh at himself and brighten students days with his crazy hats and glasses. He just seems to have a way of lifting up colleagues and students and for that he was our nominee for Employee in the Spotlight.”
